So whose voting who? Boris or Ken - or do we want someone new?

Personally think Boris has been running on the fruits of Ken's hard work that he put in when he was the mayor.

I think Boris is too disconnected from the people, he called his salary of £250,000 as chicken feed!

i have had great fun over the past few weeks.

the fact that its a hung parliament is a great result for us.

we had some downs (Salma not getting in, Martin Linton losing out, lib dems not doing so well)

we had some ups (Shahid Malik out, Dismore Out, Muslim Women in)

this was an atypical year. People are worried about the economy big time!

well done to all the guys who worked hard in our community. lets learn from our mistakes and come back back stronger. Never know, there may be round two around the corner.

massive shift back to labour by our community is a shame. its all due to the economy i think. they are worried about their pockets. coudnt trust the new guys or the old tories.

with time comes experience, and with experience comes wisdom.

till next time

Statement by Susan Williams

I would like to thank the Muslim community here in Bolton West for the warmth and hospitality you have shown to me over the last 3 1/2 years that I have been your Conservative candidate. I have never been so well fed and looked after in my life as I have by you! I have met so many of you and the way that you have organised the debates during the election has allowed me to speak to you on the various issues that are important to you in the forthcoming election.
I have found that there is so much that unites us- from the importance of upholding family values, to supporting faith schools in our society and promoting civil liberties for a better future in this country. We have covered and debated even the most difficult of topics and I hope that the freedom of speech in which we have engaged is something that we can promote together without fear of reprisal or suspicion.
I know that you will make the right decision on who to vote for at the General Election on May 6th and I hope that I have gained your confidence in voting for me. If I am elected as your MP on 7th May, I promise to represent you to the best of my abilities and thank you for taking the time and effort to get to know me.

Best wishes,
Susan Williams

HMF Press Release:

Pakistan Welfare Association & Hounslow Muslim Forum Hustings Success

Over two hundred and fifty local Hounslow residents and community members attended Sunday’s political hustings organised by the Pakistan Welfare Association in partnership with the Hounslow Muslim Forum, at the PWA’s Jinnah Centre on Hounslow Road, Hanworth.

With a full-house of eager inquisitors and prospective councillors and parliamentarians from all the main parties, the stage was set for what turned out to be an animated discussion. The two part hustings for national and local elections saw candidate take part from both the Feltham/Heston and Brentford/Isleworth constituencies.

Topics raised included measures to improve the economy, dealing fairly with the issue of immigration, actively curbing anti-social behaviour, protecting public services, pursuing ethical foreign policies, lessons learnt from the expenses scandal, putting the constituencies interests before the party chief whip’s, suitable availability and access to MP’s surgeries, insufficient local funding for much needed youth projects, Hatton Cross Cemetery and the diminishing space for Muslim burial allocation in the Borough, the need for more recreational and leisure facilities, and further to a parliamentary select committee report, the potential stigmatising effect that the Preventing Violent Extremism programme has had on Muslim communities.

All candidates pledged their wholehearted commitment to serving the people of Hounslow, if elected. The chair of the PWA and HMF, Mr Ata Chaudhry, who hosted the event alongside barrister Ms Ismat Rawat remarked, ‘The audience put the candidates to task and the responses were on the whole substantive, an amazing hustings that was made all the more splendid due to the good natured but serious debates that took place. We hope the evening will assist our community in making informed selections on May 6th, selections that are best for Hounslow. We are truly grateful to all our respected guests both candidates and residents who attended and made it such a memorable evening. We would also like to thank the HMF membership for their support and participation’

Ends

Notes:

MP Khalid Mahmood says ''F*** Off MPACUK'' in a Church Hustings!

I went to a hustings in Handsworth Wood, a fairly calm affair organised by a church group, mainly older people in attendance, all questions were pre-arranged, almost no heckling, people were told when to clap, when to get up and stretch their legs, what order to ask their questions in. I was so bored at the civility of it all I almost fell asleep on the front row.

However, as the hustings drew to a close a request was made by the Chair (a Reverend), for the PPC’s and MP to mingle with the people, so I thought I'd take my shot and ask Khalid Mahmood a few questions. But before I could get to Khalid, one of his supporters came up to me and said:

''I heard you're a new party,'' to which I replied, "No, I’m not part of any party". He retorted, ''You're standing in the election - what’s your party's name?'' I explained that we were an organisation called MPACUK and we that we didn’t support any parties. "We are just anti-HIM!!" pointing to Khalid. "And we want Khalid Mahmood to lose!"

At this point, the middle-aged guy said, ''Son, when a Muslim is standing and another Muslim opposes him, they become a kaffir.''

I was temporarily shocked, partly at the stupidity of the statement and partly at the conviction with which he said it and I replied, ''Who are you to call me a kaffir?'' to which he replied, ''I can because you are opposing Khalid." So I asked him, ''Who are you to give a fatwa like that? What’s your education, Islamic background? What mosque/dar ul uloom have you attended? Where’s your evidence - do you have Ijaza?'' He responded, ''I am an educated Muslim and I am able to give a fatwa, but give me your phone number I want to meet with you and talk to you in private.''. At first, I was reluctant to give my phone number to such a deluded individual but then I thought what’s the worst he can do - breathe down the phone heavily?? At that point, the man himself, Khalid Mahmood, entered the scene ...

Khalid said, ''Welcome MPACUK. Are you campaigning against me??" To which I replied, ''Alhumdhulliah," (he didn’t like that). I gave him 'Salaam' and shook his hand. He said, "What's going on?’’ I answered, "Your mate here has called me a Kaffir." He said, "You guys called me a kaffir on your website." I said, "I’ve never called you a kaffir." He then diverted the conversation and asked why we were campaigning. I said, "Because when you were elected, we had high hopes for you. You were one of us and yet in Parliament you voted with the Government and you refused to oppose the war in Iraq and have supported the war in Afghanistan.'' Khalid said, "You guys know jack shit. The reason I didn’t vote in the third vote was because I already supported an EDM opposing the war and voted for that and I couldn’t vote for the third vote because of what was attached to it.'' (He was too angry to make any sense). Then he went onto say, ''Idiots! Those two idiots, they don’t know what they are talking about.'' I said ''Khalid, don’t swear. There’s no need to swear.'' He said', "I’m not swearing - I’m calling you idiots." Then he went on a rant about how ''diverse my constituency is and how I work hard, day-to-day talking to people on the streets and MPACUK are out their spreading lies and turning people against me. You don’t know what you are doing.'' I interrupted and asked, ''What lies??'' and he said ''You know jack sh*t.'' (Eloquent, as always).

Then he mentioned that he resigned from the Labour Party because of Tony Blair and we were hypocrites to oppose him and that I should, ''Fock off! Just fock off!'' and stormed off to shake hands with some other people...

All of this in a church in earshot of at least 20/30 people..what a crackpot!!

Then his lackey (the one who called me kaffir) told me that I was a young man who has been misguided and I need to go to his house to discuss Khalid over tea...

I said, ''What, and be sworn at??’’ He said, ''You're swearing at Khalid by putting out leaflets." I said, "Show me a swear or a lie in the leaflet''...to which he said '"Putting out leaflets is swearing at him." I said, ''OK, Uncle'' ... and then he went to stand like a good puppy next to Khalid...

What an eventful day....

We have Khalid riled and I get the impression MPACUK literature is making a difference on the ground.

The mind says Virendra Sharma (Labour)as Southall is a sea of red and his chances are best. Mr Singh of the Conservatives and his party-hopping does him no favours and has one him few friends...

Dear Dr Tahir,

Although we are in agreement on voting for Yasmin Qureshi, I am not advocating voting for her on the grounds of her being Muslim. If Yasmin was not not a Muslim and standing in my constituency even for the Conservatives I would ask people to vote for her because of her values.

Voting solely for someone who is a Muslim is no longer justified as has been demonstrated by the likes of two of our Muslims MPs Khalid Mahmood and Shahed Malik.

Use your vote to support those who support truth, justice and a fair society whether they be Muslim or not!

This is the most intractable part of amy Muslim policy. Use your power of
vote to support muslims.

Assalamo alaikum

Most people in our community will be aware that on Thursday 6th of May the elections are to take place. There are local council elections but national parliamentary ones too – you will have two votes.

Don’t waste your votes:
We as the Muslim community MUST look at the whole picture – what will be best for us! The reality here in Bolton is that in all the wards the only two candidates who have a chance of winning are the Conservative or Labour ones. Blatantly, there is no choice but to vote for one of these – a vote for any other party is a wasted vote. Wallahi this is the reality.

Who Muslims in Bolton should vote for:
After a lot of research into what each individual candidate stands for the following can be said:

In the Bolton North East constituency: (Astley Bridge, Halliwell, Crompton, Bromley Cross, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Tonge)

Candidates for M.P:
Paul Ankers Liberal Democrat
Norma Armston Your Party
David Crausby Labour
Deborah Dunleavy Conservative
Neil Johnson UK Independence Party

I encourage all Muslims you Must vote for David Crausby (Labour) on his past track record and what he has done for Muslims so far. He is an upfront, honest and simple man who holds community values very dear. He voted against Iraq, opposed extension of 28 days detention, aided the Gaza convoy and has publicly stuck up for the Palestinians. He is not a ‘Wolf in sheep’s clothing’!
The Best out of the Labour – Conservatives candidates for Bolton North East for Muslims

Yes, the Labour government have messed things up, but we Muslims of Bolton must look at the ‘lesser of the two evils’.

Bolton South East: (Hulton, Rumworth, Great Lever, Harper Green, Little Lever, Farnworth, Kearsley)

Candidates for M.P:
Alan Johnson Green
Andy Morgan Conservative
Donal O'Hanlon Liberal Democrat
Yasmin Qureshi Labour
Ian Sidaway UK Independence Party
Sheila Spink British National Party
Navaid Syed Christian Peoples Alliance

There is no contest in this ward – Labour have a majority of over 33%. Fortunately the Labour candidate (Yasmin Qureshi) is the best out of the Labour – Conservative candidates for the Bolton South East Muslim community. As the BNP is standing in this area it is essential Muslims use their vote here too – simply to drown out the BNP & UKIP (who are opposed to Muslim day to day practices).

Bolton West: (Horwich, Heaton, Blackrod, Lostock, Westhoughton)

Candidates for M.P:
Julie Hilling Labour
Harry Lamb UK Independence Party
Rachel Mann Green Party
Jackie Pearcey Liberal Democrat
Susan Williams Conservative

I encourage all Muslims to vote for Susan Williams (Conservatives) again on his past track record and what he has done for Muslims so far in Trafford and Bolton. She is very clued up on Muslim sensitivities, against the ill conceived wars, very approachable and down to earth. The Best out of the Labour – Conservatives candidates for Bolton West for Muslims

Why you must vote:
I make this totally clear, I am not a Labour or a Conservatives man – we (Muslims) have to look at who will champion our values and stick up for us when it comes to policy at the Parliament level.

If we let ‘puppets’, ‘yes men/women’ or ‘conniving’ politicians get in we have the next FIVE years to tolerate the damage the do to the Muslim community!

I pray Allah guides us all to choose the best for our community and the best leaders for the entire Ummah.

Please vote wisely – Do not waste your vote.

Try to pass this message to all Muslims in Bolton you can. Jazakallah.

As salamu alaikum

A point to raise with you; there is a serious threat of Deborah Dunleavey just taking the Bolton North seat - please try and encourage people to get behind David Crauseby. Deborah has blatently said she will fight her campaign without the Muslim vote! Does that suggest she will do anything for Muslims if she gets elected. She has campaigned dirty too, by sending out racist campaign material in specific ward areas like breightment and yet sends out material in Muslim areas suggesting she has 'met' Muslims so qualifies to get their vote!

Do what you can. Ultimately, make lots of tawba and dua to Allah that the best candidates for the Muslim community are elected.

I am aware She has made a statement that the Srilankan govt perperated genocide on the Tamils and may be backing LTTE sympathisers. Her stance is completely unacceptable.
She has been lobbied by the Tamils for several months and has only heard their side of the story. We have met her about this issue and she will listen, but it will take time considering she has only heard one side for months. She is off course new and green. On many isssues her views do tick a lot of the boxes. Her answers about MCB were satisfactory. She has assured us that she will not tow the party line, obviously we don't know if this would change with the party pressures. we need to back "good" candidates first, as they can have an influence in their party. The other option of having Gareth for another term would mean muslims views not being heard in parliament. Just see his voting record and questions in parliament over the last 10 years.

Let's not mess it up boys and girls. Labour has been truly awful for us but prospect of Yasmin Qureshi as the MP for the majority of our community is just brill.

Let's not get into kicking Labour here and ruin something positive. Vote Yasmin Qureshi even if it gauls you to put a X next to Labour...

Let's show the BNP that we are getting behind someone whose human rights experience will support us against the likes of the racist BNP and the EDL.

Being a mother and a teacher, I'm going for Susan Williams too. In the interview, her views on sex education to our kids and the rights of the unborn baby are spot on with many of my concerns. I do not want my young kids being taught about homosexuality and It is also appalling that we are able to kill babies at 24 weeks at present because of the pro choice lobby who give all the rights to the women for their bodies - who speaks for the unborn baby? Susan Williams Conservative would vote to reduce the abortion limit to the lowest possible and has gone on record to say 12 weeks whereas Julie Hilling for Labour wouldn't even commit to a figure which suggests she is more pro choice than pro life.

Susan Williams also comes across as someone who really gets it and the challenges we face in her words "with the rise of secularism" and the danger that poses to us practicing Muslims going forwards.

I'm pleased in knowing that Susan is also the favourite to win the seat.

Julie Hilling wasn't even present at that 'hustings' so I really don't know whose views you are on about mate. I'm referring to the written answers given by candidates to engage and more importantly to the answers given to the YouElect interviewer. Those interviews make it fairly clear who's more in tune to our Muslim views. Read the interview documents mate and no I'm not a Tory but will be voting for them for the first time ever.

Concerned - "Rachel Joyce who doesn't feel she can help the Muslim community?"
why do you say that. I and several people have met her and she has pledged her support. She seems genuine etc. we can never be sure how she will behave if elected, but I know for sure Gareth will not, as he will never ever, challange his party line.
I say this after lobbying him for several years. If muslims want their views to be heard and taken seriously, we need to kick out MP's who do not support us, or even reduce their majority and they realise this was done by the muslim vote.
The new MP will then take our views seriously as they would understand that we can vote them out. In Harrow West the muslim vote is big enough to swing the vote from Labour.

Also the statement "There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. " is discrinatory and illogical.

Free Schools

Almost all children now believe they go to school to pass exams. The idea that they may be there for an education is irrelevant. State, independent and Faith schools have become exam factories, interested only in A to C Grades. They do not educate children. Exam results do not reflect a candidate’s innate ability. Employers and Universities both rely on the candidate’s grades. Employers have moaned for years that too many employees cannot read or write properly.

Bilingual Muslims children have a right, as much as any other faith group, to be taught their culture, languages and faith alongside a mainstream curriculum. Rejecting state funded Muslim schools as "anti-democratic" or "divisive" is simply the wrong approach to take.

Compulsory state education has promised to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, physical and academic development of a child in preparation for adult life - has failed far too many children, particularly national minorities and especially Muslim children. Now the time has come that parents and community should take over the running of their local schools The Local Authority's role should be confined to simply ensuring schools operate within the prevailing legislative framework (admissions criteria, Special Educational Needs, Community Cohesion, Financial Audit, etc). Parents can perform a better job than the Local Authority because parents have a genuine vested interest. The Local Authority simply cannot be trusted.

There is no end to Forced marriages and honour killings as long as Bilingual Muslim children keep on attending state schools with monolingual non-Muslim teachers. Muslim schools are attractive to Muslim parents because they have better discipline and teaching Islamic values. Bilingual Muslim teachers are role models who understand the needs and demands of their children.

No body has the right to tell a woman how to dress, or worse, how to undress? Let her wear what she likes, especially if it's part of her religion. I see the banning of headscarves or niqabs as an attack on both religious freedom and on the rights of women & girls. A veil ban targets very few women; it speaks to a fear of other who is Muslim. This is Islamophobia. In the United Kingdom, there is a social and economic pressure on Muslim women not to cover themselves with headscarf or a veil. The tiny minority of women are being blamed for all the failure of integration policies through out Europe. European Muslims are more worried about the economy, the cost of living, decent housing and racism than about a burqa ban.

Each and every Muslim child should be in a state funded Muslim school with bilingual Muslim teachers as role model during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. Bilingual Muslim children need to learn and be well versed in Standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time they need to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages in order to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry.

There are hundreds of state and church schools where Muslim children are in majority. In my opinion, all such schools may be designated as Muslim community schools. Muslim children are in majority in schools because native parents remove their children as soon as the number of Muslim children is on the increase. They do not want their children to mix with Muslim or any other migrant children

All the local work by Engage and the recent YouElect interviews have provided answers given by both of the two main candidates from Labour and Conservative. Going off this I believe the Muslims should be voting Tory.

His voting record is very bad. Considered to be the most obedient on Party line.
This week we saw a vistit by Tony Blair in his constituency, this is in bad taste, considering there is a large muslim population.
Harrow and Brent Labour this week have a full page advert with support Narendra Modi responsible of Muslim massacre in Gujarat, This is to get the large Hindu/Gurati population support.

We have other options to vote the conservative or Lib-Dem candidate in Harrow West.

both the BMI and Salaam are backing Gareth Thomas. We need to know the reasoning for this ,as most msulims aware of Harrow politics want him kicked out.

ps. there are some post about Gareth in the Harrow East forum, which should be here

At the Harrow hustings he was challenged by a Harrow mosque trustee, why he was saying he supported Harrow, when he has never done that, and was not seen during last year, when the EDL demonstartors where there.
Harrow mosque wanted to make clear that they never had any support from Mr Blackman
