   Was doing some digging around to find out more and I cam across tis article, Having recently seen Mr Singh talking to locals in Southall I wasn't particularly impressed by his 'oration', Its between Mr Sharma and Nigel me thinks...

   There are strong rumours is confirmed news that Labour councillor Gurcharan Singh in Southall and 4 other buddies have defected to the Conservative Party. This would primarily because he was denied the chance to run as Labour’s man in Southall in the upcoming by-election. Cllr Virendra Sharma was chosen.

   This is brilliant news for the Labour party not the Conservatives. Labour lose an extremely divisive and factional councillor who had paralysed the local party and made grand claims about having thousands of votes in the bag (councillors in Southall are near universally hated for their incompetence on almost all issues). The Tories have apparently lured him with promises of a seat in a different constituency, which is not only likely to immensely annoy the grassroots but brings in a factional, power-hungry operator who is neither young and fresh nor a long-standing Tory. Labour need to flush out all their lame candidates from the area and this could be a brilliant development.

   I am suprised that there are no muslim candidates standing in any of these west london boroughs, none in heston and feltham. Surely with such a huge mosque they could muster 5,000+ muslim votes. I think the west london guys need to be more proactive

   I believe this is for the first time Muslims have broken the mould and started to become more proactive in mainstream politics. You are right, we need Muslim candidates but inshallah if during this campaign we get success stories, more and more Muslims will stand up next time. Also we need to really combat the individuals that are saying voting is haraam - we need to combat it theologically!

   The Pakistan Welfare Association (PWA) in partnership with the Hounslow
   Muslim Forum (HMF) are pleased to announce the London Borough of Hounslow
   Hustings, that will take place on Sunday the 2nd of May 2010, 6.30pm at the
   Jinnah Centre, 136-146 Hounslow Road, Feltham TW13.
   Prospective parliamentary and local council candidates have been invited to
   attend and discuss their manifestos and their views on local and national issues.

   E-Day tomorrow, having met the candidates for Ealing Southall, the heart says Nigel (Lib Dem), unassuming, sincere, hardworking and fluency in the English language. The mind says Virendra Sharma (Labour)as Southall is a sea of red and his chances are best. Mr Singh of the Conservatives and his party-hopping does him no favours and has one him few friends...
