Sarah Teather in key battle for Lib Dems
14th April 2010

The Reuter report notes, " a key battle will be fought in northwest London between two current members of parliament, one Lib Dem and one Labour, whose former seats overlap in the newly created constituency of Brent Central.

The Lib Dems' housing spokeswoman Sarah Teather, who defeated Labour twice in her old Brent East seat, faces Labour's Dawn Butler, a former union official who is only the third black woman to have been elected to parliament.

'We know there is a fight here because of the change in boundaries but we are confident we shall get back,' said Lib Dem treasury spokesman Vince Cable, on a campaigning trip to the constituency.

The seat is home to the rebuilt multimillion pound Wembley stadium, its soaring steel arch hovering over the district.  It is also one of Britain's most deprived and ethnically diverse areas, where jobs and social security benefits are the priorities for many of its residents in an election being fought over the economy, emerging from the worst recession in decades." source
